Stara Public Enterprise

We are Helsinki City Construction Services, Stara. We provide services related to construction, maintenance and logistics in the urban environment for the City of Helsinki.

We have considerable experience in the construction, care and maintenance of streets and parks. We also build and maintain the City’s facilities – schools, day care centres and other premises. We take care of Helsinki’s nature, city forests and coastal waters.

We are a multidisciplinary operator, and our services also include jobs that require special expertise, from soil surveys to the creation of works of art. We provide everything a functional city needs.

Finance

The year 2021 was financially challenging for Stara and Stara’s net sales decreased. The volume of construction decreased and construction costs rose sharply. Income decreased by 13.7 percent compared to the previous year.

Service units

City Engineering, Construction
We build and repair streets, parks and squares. We also offer expert services related to soil and bedrock.

City Engineering, Maintenance
We take care of the city’s streets, parks and public areas and repair everything in the urban environment, from asphalt surfaces to play equipment.

Construction Engineering
We specialise in the repairs of City-owned buildings. Our core competence also includes the repairs and restorations of special structures and rebuilding.

Environmental Management
We manage urban forests, the City’s farmland and natural areas. Our work also includes the cleaning of coastal waters and archipelago areas. We also offer services in greenhouse cultivation, arboriculture and group plant design.

Logistics
We provide the car, machine and transport services the City needs, as well as many technical services.Our logistics centre provides the entire City with the tools and supplies needed in its daily work. We also operate the sign service, reuse centre, flag flying service and equipment rental.

Administration
The Administration unit supports Stara’s management and the achievement of objectives through its basic work and development projects. The Administration unit is divided into six subunits: Personnel, Financing, Communications, Information Management, Premises, and Administration and Decision-making Support.
